Title

South Bend, Indiana - Book Inn Bed and Breakfast, Notre Dame, IN, Studebaker

Description

HISTORY OF THE HOUSE...Built by Albert & Martha Cushing in 1872, this home was one of the earliest residences in the historic district of South Bend. Cushing was a local businessman with interests in several enterprises, including a drug and bookstore at 101 North Michigan Street. Inside you will find twelve foot ceilings and hand-hewn, irreplaceable butternut woodwork that welcomes you to this elegant mansion. The house is listed as an outstanding example of Second Empire architecture by the Indiana Historic Site Preservation Committee. Sometimes called French Victorian, the mansard roof with ornamental arched dormer windows creates an impression of massive elegance. The entry doors with double leaf wood and applied decoration reportedly won first place for design at the 1893 Columbian Exposition in Chicago. The beauty, elegance, and warm hospitality of this grand home will make your visit an unforgettable one.

A gift certificate is a wonderful present. Instead of just "something else to dust", give a priceless memory. A phone call will have your gift certificate along with our brochure and South Bend information in the next mail.
