Title

Dairy Relief, Inc: Non-profit distributor of dairy products for world hunger

Description

In 1997 a group of farm leaders felt the government had too much nonfat dry milk (NFDM) sitting in storage. "With hunger around the work, that powder was going to waste and having a detrimental effect on dairy market prices." Carl Baumann, a fifth generation Illinois dairy farmer who was then president of Mid-America Dairymen, Inc. "We decided to create a nonprofit humanitarian organization to help move NFDM offshore." Since its founding in 1998 Dairy Relief had sent one million pounds of milk powder to relieve hunger in more than 23 countries in five nations.

Jerry Kozak, President and CEO of National Mil Producers Federation, wrote in his "CEO's Corner" message one year ago, "having one day's milk from just one cow would be gift of unimaginable value to half the people on the planet. One small way we can extend our blessings is by helping hungry people overseas get access to U.S. dairy products."

Dairy Relief Inc. is the only charitable organization in the United States solely dedicated to providing quality U.S. dairy products to needy people around the world.
