in a nutshell
I'm a performing artist, mainly. I do improvisational theater and live visuals. Right now I'm getting an MS in Integrated Digital Media at Polytechnic University. My main project at IDMI is Kids Connect, a series of summer workshops teaching improvisation, storytelling, audio/visual performance and online collaboration (with video streams and in Second Life) to teens in New York and Amsterdam. I'm a co-organizer of Share, an open jam for audio/visual artists held every Sunday in the East Village, NYC.
The man behind the domain name
Dan Winckler is a performing artist (improv theater, live visuals) living in New York City. Right now, Dan is getting an MS in the Integrated Digital Media program at Polytechnic University in Brooklyn. Usually filling his busy calendar are such things as improv and sketch comedy, live improvised visuals (VJ-ing) and video art, but he's cut his commitments way down to make room for grad school. He's in the comedy group Gunshow and a core member (on the board, you might say) of Share, a non-profit organization and community that hosts open jams and workshops for audio and visual artists every Sunday. He's also an honorary member of Neutrino and shoots, edits and improvises in the missions of Improv Everywhere. He's from Texas, Virginia, Belgium and New York. He holds a B.A. in Literary and Cultural Studies from the College of William and Mary, class of 2001. He wrote the above in the first person originally but switched it to the third person since that seems to be the done thing.
n.b. Dan is not equivalent to the essence of dan. When we are seeking the essence of "dan," we have to become aware that That which pervades every dan, as dan, is not itself a dan that can be encountered among all the other dans.*
