DarkRealmFox was started because of my love for home cinema, it specifically deals with high definition movie content on the blu ray disc format but also has movie news, celebrity pictures with mini biographies, the latest film ratings for the UK and North America, blu ray release lists/blu ray reference lists/minor/medium/major issue lists and a section entitled cinema fantastique which looks back at some film classics, i also have a section called The Dark Corner which discusses subjects which are sometimes not film related.

Blu Ray Reviews
For each review i take into account many factors.
I tend to take the view that small bits of edge enhancement which are isolated incidents are not bad enough to keep a film from being on my reference list but if the edge enhancement is consistent and keeps appearing throughout the movie then i consider that at least a minor issue although the strength of the sharpening must also be taken into consideration and usually if it's there for an entire movie it becomes a major issue. The same is true of other problems such as DNR which removes detail or compression issues.
Sometimes a movie will be downconverted from either 8k or 4k to a lower resolution such as 2k and this can introduce ringing to some parts of the image. Ringing is very similar to edge enhancement in appearance.
The sound quality of movies is very subjective.
I actually gave Star Trek a lower score than some people might give it due to the fact i personally felt the deep bass didn't really make the air move the way a movie like Hellboy II or The Mummy: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor or even Valkyrie did. When it comes to audio and the term reference mix i expect a modern day movie to have crystal clear speech, great split surround use and very deep bass. Many movies have very good sound quality but don't use their surround channels enough or go deep enough that you feel the bass in the air.
Obviously great sound or image quality cannot rescue a movie if the script is poor or does not engage the viewer but at the very least i expect a great sound mix on all new movies.
Browser Compatibility Information
This site has been designed so that most monitor resolutions will work.
A tip for those who find the text at the site is either too small or large is to go to your browsers top left bar and click view. With Internet Explorer you can choose text size and page size to suit your monitor.
With Firefox you can choose page size by selecting View and Zoom.
In the Opera web browser you can also choose View and a number of screen options to suit your monitor and even disable images in a web page which will allow you to load pages faster and read reviews only if you so choose.
Blu Ray Screencaps
HD screencaps are taken directly off the disc and i give a summary of of the disc with the screencaps, i always watch the movie first, screencaps can be a useful guide for those looking for quality releases but there is no substitute for viewing the film and making your own mind up. I capture each screencap as an PNG and then convert using 100% max quality into JPG, i have carefully checked this and can confirm there is no visible loss of image quality.
