Title

The Dartmoor Railway - Okehampton, Devon

Description

Departing from Okehampton Station, the 'Dartmoor Pony' climbs for 2 miles through scenic Devon countryside, past the ruins of medieval Okehampton Castle, through Estrayer Park tunnel, past open meadows (in which you may see a real Dartmoor Pony) finally running alongside the fascinating workings of Meldon stone quarry to Meldon Viaduct station in the Dartmoor National Park.

On arrival at Meldon, why not break your journey and take time to enjoy the beautiful Dartmoor countryside? Go for a stroll across Meldon Viaduct, the largest structure of its kind remaining in the UK.

Meldon Viaduct was built in 1874 to carry express steam trains from London Waterloo to Plymouth over the West Okement Valley 120 feet below. Today the trains have gone and the refurbished viaduct has been opened up for walkers and cyclists.
