Dartmouth is a private, four year liberal arts institution established on December 13, 1769 making it the ninth oldest college in the United States. It has a rich endowment of $3.1 billion dollars which makes it the seventh wealthiest college if you look at funds available per student. It is located in Hanover, New Hampshire and is a member of the Ivy League. It offers both undergraduate and graduate programs. The college not only offers liberal arts program but also medical, engineering and business programs. It has about 53 programs in all thus making it the size of a university.
Some of the popular graduate and undergraduate students that studied at Dartmouth College include Chief Justice of the United States Salmon P. Chase, Four Pulitzer Prizes Winner Robert Frost, Current U.S Secretary of the Treasury Henry Paulson Jr., Vice President of the U.S Nelson Rockefeller and New Hampshire Senator and U.S Secretary of State Daniel Webster.

The college has an excellent reputation within the country and also all over the world for its quality research, student-faculty interaction, off-campus programs and a diverse student body represented by students from all over the country and world. According to the 2007 rankings released by U.S. News, the college is ranked ninth in the country for undergraduate programs.

Number of undergraduate student enrollment is about 4,464. Number of graduate students is about 1,639. The university has a large number of out of state students of 97%. The minority representation in the college is 3% American Indian/Alaskan Native, 12% Asian/Pacific Islander, 6% Black/Non-Hispanic and 6% Hispanic/Latino. The faculty strength is about 940.

For students who are willing to live on campus the college has a campus hall that can accommodate 3,000 students. There is meal service availability also. Types of residences include Sorority houses, Married student housing off campus, Coed residence halls, Fraternity houses and International halls. Number of registered organizations is 250; Number of social fraternities is 14 and Number of social sororities’ is 8. The university has variety of on-campus activities which include academic clubs, television station, theatre/drama, choir, concert band, newspaper, orchestra, religious activities, sports, minority cultural activities and much more.
