The Department for Constitutional Affairs was created on 12 June 2003. The Department is responsible for upholding justice, rights and democracy. Our objectives are: to ensure effective and accessible justice for all; to protect citizens' rights; and, to enhance democratic freedoms by modernising the law and the constitution.
