Espiritu Santo (meaning home to the spirits of the Saints) is the largest and most stunning in so many ways of all the islands in the magnificent Vanuatu island chain. During WW2 James A Michener, then a lieutenant in the US army was posted here, so overwhelmed by the islands beauty he wrote the legendary Tales of the South Pacific.
