Before it became a part of Google's newsgroup (usenet) discussion archive. Entries date back to the early days of Usenet. It was an independent company in the late 1990's and early 2000 which specilized in archiving all messages from all newsgroups. It changed its name to deja.com later on.

In the late 1990s and early 2000, this site was a very active site. It has archieved almost all the newsgroups online which make some people uneasy due to privacy concern. People can easily enter an email address, and find out everything that the owner of that email address had written. If someone wants to delete his/her own messages, s/he has to follow some procedures on that site in order to delete those messages which can be time consuming.
It was probably not profitable. In the end, it was sold to google, and became a part of google groups.
