Lloyd Emmons graduated from the Tennessee Highway Patrol basic recruit school class number 183 in 1977. His first assignment was in Davidson County where he worked the Interstate system as a road trooper. In 1982 he was assigned to duty at the World's Fair in Knoxville. During his several two-week tours his duties included dignitary protection and road patrol.
Emmons was assigned to the THP Criminal Investigations Division in 1989 and conducted undercover drug investigations in Middle Tennessee. He trained at several specialized schools that included undercover investigations, informant control and organized crime investigation.
After completing his undercover assignment Emmons returned to work the road in DeKalb County until his promotion to sergeant in 1994.
