Dementia Care Central

Description

Excerpted from the website:

Clinical Tools, Inc., has received funding from the National Institute on Aging to develop a new online intervention for informal caregivers of individuals with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias.
At this time, Dementia Care Central is under development. Look for exciting changes to content, resources, and site design in the coming months.
Project Need
There is a great need for more education and support tools for caregivers. There are currently over seven million Americans living with dementia, and most of them are cared for at home by a loved one. The negative impact of caregiving for someone with dementia has been well documented: caregivers' physical and mental health often decline as they struggle to care for their loved ones.
Project Goal
However, research has proven that psychoeducational interventions are effective in reducing caregiver stress, depression, and burden. Thus, educating caregivers about dementia and providing tips and tools to assist with caregiving should ultimately improve outcomes for both informal caregivers and their loved ones. Outcomes may include improved quality of caregiver-care recipient interactions, caregiver health and mental health, and care recipient long-term-care placement and health status. This is the ultimate goal of DementiaCareCentral.com.
Website Features
When completed, DementiaCareCentral.com will include educational information, psychosocial and peer support tools, and interactive resources. The following combination of features will make DementiaCareCentral.com a highly innovative product unlike any other resource that currently exists:
* Carefully crafted, senior-friendly interface
* Thorough content about all of the major forms of dementia
* Practical, hands-on caregiving information, including videos
* Interactive features to assist users in different stages of caregiving
* Developed with extensive feedback from caregivers and geriatric health professionals
Website Evaluation
We are conducting evaluations of the website throughout 2008 and 2009. If you are a caregiver or know someone who is interested in getting involved in one of these studies, email us at .
