For decades Charlene has recorded her days and years in books of every size and shape. A collector of quotes, letters, clippings, invitations and photographs, she has woven these and other pop artifacts into an exhaustive record of conversations, events, dreams, trips, and the like to create dozens of versions of what we know as a journal, or diary. As a book artist, Charlene's pages may be purely visual, expressing her moods and messages through drawings, collages, rubber-stamping or a limitless range of other media. Rule #1...there are no rules, and her diaries are as creative as her life...one mirroring the other.
A native of New York, Charlene holds a master's degree in education, and is known for her engaging and insightful teaching style. With an extensive library of private diaries and books about journal writing, collected over a period of thirty years, Charlene is a noted authority on the field of journal therapy.
As the founder of The Diarists' Workshop, Charlene teaches many journal writing classes including: Write On, The Critic Within, The Talking Book, and Between The Lines. Her lectures and day retreats have been sell-outs, and her innovative journals and assemblages have been featured in group and solo exhibits. Her first publication on the subject, Inner Outings, co-authored with Claudia Jessup was released by New World Library in the fall of 2002.
