Description
Gil was born in Omaha , Nebraska in 1936 and remained there until completion of his internship at Nebraska Methodist Hospital . From September 1963 until August 1965 he served as General Medical Officer in the United States Air Force. He then returned to the University of Nebraska , where he completed his OB/GYN residency. He was in private practice for thirty-one years in Jackson . Since 1999 he has been semi-retired, working part time in an OB/GYN clinic at The Center for Family Health. His wife, Cindy an RN, works part time as a clinic nurse at the local health department. Gil and Cindy have five grown children and six grandchildren.
He was invited to join the Rotary Club of Jackson in 1972 and served as its president 2000-2001. He served the district as an Assistant Governor from 2001 to 2004. He has participated in many community service endeavors through Rotary. A notable example is his involvement in ‘disAbility Connections' (formerly Jackson County Society for Handicapped Children and Adults); this resulted in serving three terms as its president. He has also served on several boards including Vista Grand Villa Retirement Community.
Gil is a major donor to The Rotary Foundation. He is a sustaining (EREY) donor to the Foundation, is a Foundation Benefactor and has received recognition for multiple Paul Harris Fellow contributions. As a physician, he was able to make a special contribution as a volunteer with three Polio Plus eradication teams: India , January 2000 and February 2004 and Nigeria , November 2002. Cindy joined him for the India , 2000 trip. Gil and Cindy have been hosts for three GSE team members.
