- One day, a few weeks before the birth of our daughter Fiona, it occurred to us that our beloved dog Jack may not be too pleased with her arrival into our home, and we became very concerned about how he would adjust to his new role as number two. Up until then, he was not a fan of children and the noises they make. So on a whim, we came up with the harebrained idea to repeatedly play Jack recorded sounds of babies crying, while supplementing with treats, in an attempt to prepare him for the big "meeting". Much to our surprise and relief, this preventative maintenance worked like a charm. By the time we brought baby Fiona home from the hospital, Jack didn't even raise his head when she cried. He was completely trained! Either that, or completely deaf...we'll go with trained.
