Additional Information

Launched in January 2001 as "The Scoop", Dogsinthenews.com began as a limited news service operated by animal rescue volunteers in Chicago. As popularity grew, so did the website and its scope, and by mid-2001 it became affiliated with the Yahoo News network and other global newswires.

Following the September 11, 2001 attack on the World Trade Center, Dogsinthenews.com experienced its next phase of evolution when it became a central medium through which K9 search-and-rescue professionals could have a voice in popular media. The famous World Trade Center's Heroic Rescue Dogs picture gallery became a sobering tribute to the souls, both human and canine, who lent their efforts in the wake of the tragedy. With tremendous support from FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency), the NYPD (New York Police Department) and countless individuals involved in the 9/11 search-and-rescue operations, Dogsinthenews.com was able to broadcast to the world the single greatest example of interspecies collaboration ever known on Earth.

In the years that followed, now with a central office in New York City, Dogsinthenews.com underwent several more radical transformations focusing on the rescue and treatment of abused dogs, offering grants for people who cannot afford veterinary care for their rescued animals (cats too) and planning to build a "stray dog sanctuary" in the middle of Manhattan. As of 2007, the organization reports that is still gaining momentum in its aspirations, and to date it has remained a 100% volunteer group with not a single person accepting any compensation for work done.
