Title
Door County Advocate
Description
Wisconsin's Door Peninsula projects northeasterly into Lake Michigan nearly 80 miles from the northeastern corner of Wisconsin. The water of Lake Michigan borders its eastern shore while on the westward side Green Bay separates it from the mainland. At its base the peninsula is about 18 miles wide, tapering to a width of about 3 miles at its northern end. Washington Island lies off the tip of the peninsula. The county contains 477.7 sq. miles with some 250 miles of shoreline.
When the Door County Advocate began publication March 22, 1862, every letter had to be set by hand. Now the newspaper has a presence on the Internet and the same computers that set news for the paper are telling the cyberworld what Wisconsin’s Door Peninsula is all about.
The Advocate, Wisconsin’s largest semi-weekly, was founded by Joseph Harris Sr. Originally a weekly, it started with 104 subscribers; now in summer it’s more than 12,000.
