- The Dublin Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes is one of the biggest events in the diocese. The pilgrimage began in 1949, when it went mostly overland. The 1953 pilgrimage was aborted at Paris, but apart from that year, there have been pilgrimages from Dublin and Ireland every year since. The 2004 pilgrimage is the 54th Dublin Diocesan Pilgrimage to reach Lourdes. No other diocesan event brings so many people together. The
