You should know about your attorney. (If a law advertisement doesn't tell you about the attorney, maybe there's nothing to say!) Here are my credentials: Dean's List scholar, University of California, Bachelor of Arts, 1969; Juris Doctorate, University of California, Hastings College of Law and teaching assistant, 1972; Instructor Law Credential, Community College, 1973. Previous member of: California Trial Lawyers Association, California Attorneys for Criminal Justice, California DUI ("Deuce") Defenders. Member of National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers; National Legal Aid and Defenders Association; and County, State and American Bar Association. DUI law is different that other types of criminal law, and DMV hearings involve administrative law, as well as criminal defense law. Few lawyers are versed in both of these fields. If you want to know an expert in your area, log on to LINKS, and contact the Association of California Deuce (DUI) Defenders for an attorney in your area. Beware of advertisements in yellow pages under "A", or at large law firm ads that indicate expertise in numerous fields. Most large yellow page ads and other mailers distributed by many "legal firms" are merely referral systems that do not actually practice law in the County where you were arrested, or at all - they merely make a living referring cases to lawyers on a percentage or flat fee basis. Do not take advice from such referral systems, and do not take advice from secretaries, paralegals, or any other attorney that does not specialize in DUI and DMV law. If they don't tell you that you must contact DMV in Sacramento within 10 calendar days, they are in malpractice, and probably know little else that will help you.
