- The history of BarCharts is one of those American success stories about a husband-and-wife team who, in their home and while living on a very tight budget, took a simple idea and turned it into an international business. It all began in early 1991, when, as a recent law graduate studying for the Bar Exam, Bobbie Ford created, with pencil and paper, a simple flow chart of what she had learned in her Constitutional Law course. She told her husband, John, that it gave her a conceptual overview of how all the elements of the law fit together-kind of like a roadmap. When she said some of her classmates wanted copies from which to study, a lightbulb turned on in his head. If he redesigned it to be more professional looking, he thought, perhaps Bobbie's quick reference study aid and others like it could be sold in law school bookstores.
