NewsChannel 5 - Where the News Comes First!
Proudly serving viewers in Vermont and northern New York for nearly fifty years, NewsChannel 5, our local NBC affiliate, has a strong emphasis on local news and severe weather coverage that consistently draws high ratings from viewers across the Champlain Valley. It’s also the only station in the region that offers a five o’clock newscast, in addition to evening and late news.
Champlain 2000
And they’re not afraid to take a stand either! NewsChannel 5 is the first station to speak up about important issues in our local communities with on-air editorials. It’s that same community focus that brought them into partnership with the Lake Champlain Basin Program and KeyBank in 1999 for a unique project called Champlain 2000 – an on-going news and public service campaign focused on raising awareness of the Lake Champlain Basin’s future.
Since then, Champlain 2000 has earned multiple awards for environmental and journalistic excellence, and is now being duplicated in television markets across the country. NewsChannel 5’s continuing promotion of education and stewardship of the lake made it a natural media partner for ECHO at the Leahy Center for Lake Champlain. On television and at ECHO’s state of the art facility – learning about the lake has never been so much fun!
