Nerdie Networks and EditDNS have been around since October of 2000. When designing EditDNS, we had one goal in mind, to design an easy to use web-based interface for managing domain names.
If you've ever worked with named/bind, you'll know that it's not the easiest to configure and maintain. Our system is so easy that almost anyone can maintain their own DNS with the click of a few buttons. In fact, we don't even run bind.
Due to the amount of records EditDNS has in the database and the amount of requests it receives per day, we use a MySQL-based resolving system. It allows us to keep all records in a database, and keep the most "used" records in cache so your domain resolves almost instantly.
