- There are many bands of Miwok Indians throughout the Sierra foothills and the Sacramento and San Joaquin Valleys. Our people have inhabited our Tribal territory since time immemorial. Our specific Tribal territory is generally bound by the American River in the north, the Consumnes River in the south, the crest of the Sierra in the east, and the Sacramento River in the west. These boundaries are general as we have sacred sites outside of these boundaries.
