Welcome to ECS: The Electrochemical Society

Description edit

Intel Corporation has given $150,000 to endow the Gordon E. Moore Medal for Outstanding Achievement in Solid State Science and Technology, the most prestigious award that ECS presents to scientists and engineers in the field of solid-state science and technology. Moore has been a member of ECS for 48 years and currently holds Emeritus status. In 1997, Dr. Moore delivered the plenary lecture at an ECS meeting for the second time (the first was in 1981). On the occasion, Dr. Moore graced the cover of Interface, only one of two people who have appeared there; and that issue also carried a very interesting interview with the man behind “Moore’s law.”

ECS recently completed a project to digitize 21 years of content from the Journal of The Electrochemical Society (JES). This content (covering 1975 through 1995) will become part of the JES Archives and will be available on a free trial basis through the rest of 2006, for both ECS members and institutional subscribers. Archived articles are available as full-text PDFs, and all online back issues offer HTML-formatted tables of contents, abstract pages, and searchable database records. Volume 140 (1993) has been named the Wayne Worrell Collection, thanks to a generous contribution from Wayne and Judy Worrell, in honor of Dr. Worrell’s term as 1992-1993 ECS President, as well as for his outstanding contributions to electrochemistry and solid-state science.

The Society’s new leadership took office following the ECS meeting in Denver this past May. Mark Allendorf, Sandia National Labs, was elected President. Paul Natishan, U.S. Naval Research Laboratory, was elected to the position of Third Vice-President; and John R. Susko, JRS Technology, was elected Treasurer. Barry MacDougall, Senior Vice-President; D. Noel Buckley, Second Vice-President; and Petr Vanýsek, Secretary, are continuing their terms.
