President Bush's proposal to use National Guard troops to support the Border Patrol has drawn opposition from groups who think the Guard is overextended. Others think the proposal is a logical mission for the Guard.
The Austin Elks Lodge is happy to see the response it has received from possible new candidates. In addition, its membership is rebuffing the image of "old men in funny hats." That's according to Kathy Buker, who blazed new trails as the local organization's first female leader.
