Emplast (Pty) Ltd has a fine pedigree. The parent company, Munk & Schmitz was founded in Cologne in1880 and specialised in industrial tank building. In 1926 they expanded into building and lining tanks for the beverages industry.
Munk & Schmitz products first arrived in South Africa in 1949 and by 1952 demand was such that a South African subsidiary, Emailit Works (Pty) Ltd was established. Later renamed Emplast (Pty) Ltd, the company has had the great advantage of being the sole southern African licensee of the Munk & Schmitz "Munkadur" range of products.
A feature of the company is its remarkably low staff turn-over at all levels. Today's directors and shareholders, Roly Maidment and John Houston are only the second generation of management. The previous incumbents, who retired recently, Willi Schutten and Dieter Schultz, were with the company for 50 and 42 years respectively.
