Title

EQDiva - Everquest Bards

Description

EQDiva was started over four years ago out of my desire to spread the news about the Everquest class in which I fell in love. The idea popped into my head late 1999, and I registered the domain name in January of 2001. I definitely had no idea the site would take off as it did. But as a young bard lusting after lambent back then, I just wanted to share with the whole world how fun and versatile it was to be a bard. I got my coworkers addicted, and we'd chat EQ constantly and peruse Everlore and CastersRealm. I gleaned everything I could from The Concert Hall, a static html site with forums. Being a web programmer, I knew this good info should be databased and interactive and the idea took off fast.

Misconceptions about bards arose quite often back then; I was frustrated when my coworkers always made fun of my class, it was so opposite of what I thought a bard was. I set out to do something about the stigma. In three weeks (at work with nothing else to do), I built the first version of EQDiva and this is the site that most people were familiar with up until this last year. As the site took off, bards had a place to learn to be the best bard they could be, and other classes could learn about what a bard is all about. I got thousands of emails from people saying they started a bard. The recurring agreement was once you went bard, it's pretty hard to go back.

After a few years of playing EQ 80 hours a week, I had to set it aside and retire my Kocho. I even set EQDiva aside and started new hobbies. Around Thanksgiving of 2003, I even tried giving the site away to anyone who was a web programmer and could use my code and database. Luckily, my other passion is programming, so I started working on rebuilding the site so it will never get outdated. This project has been a success as well. So I keep up with the latest expansions, faithfully download every patch, and work as hard as I can to easily automate parts of the site so Spell and Item lists will always be fresh and up-to-date. Guides of all types (general, hunting, pvp) will be enabled in this new version. I'm encouraging people to register and fill out their Everquest profiles. Membership and forum activity has skyrocketted since I started working on the site again. So much is planned to provide a high quality class site.
