Nothing complicated about this fruity wine. It is like summer in a glass with lots of highlights of the region including peach and pear. Maybe it is the crisp finish or the natural sweetness of this vintage, but the judges must have enjoyed by awarding this Vidal the Gold Medal at the All Canadian Wine Competition.
Erie Shore is one of a dozen wineries (more coming soon) in Ontario's Lake Erie North Shore wine region. Owners Harvey and Alma Hollingshead use only their own grapes to make a range of well-priced wines, and this ice wine shows what they can do. It has the typical icewine flavours (tropical, mango, peach, apricot) with honey notes, and it has a spine of clean acidity that cuts through the natural sweetness very effectively.
