so, if you don't know already, my name is karl martin. i'm from toronto, canada and i'm currently a phd student at the university of toronto. i'm working in the area of image and video processing in the multimedia lab in the communications group, which is in the department of electrical and computer engineering. to read more about my academic work, visit my acadamic website at www.dsp.utoronto.ca/~kmartin/. i'm also the vice-chair of the ieee signals and application chapter, toronto section.
hmmm, a little bit of history....i was born in singapore, spent the early months of my life in indonesia before moving to toronto, canada. toronto is really the only home i've ever known and that suits me just fine for now 'cause there's no other place in the world i'd rather be living. it's a slice of the whole world within a city (or as close as possible), and, despite what some people from other parts of the country may think, it's a very friendly city.
back to my past...i went to earl haig secondary school where i graduated in 1997. i was in the academic gifted program (a.k.a. 'academy') and the claude watson school for the arts (within earl haig....a.k.a. 'claude'). in claude i was a music major, playing mostly clarinet as well as alto sax and bassoon (a.k.a. the 'farting bedpost'). this combination made my high school years most memorable (i mean claude and academy...not the farting bedpost and other instruments of hot air).
