Euromed Transport Project - Main Contract
Description
The EuroMed Transport Project – Main Contract is a four-year project funded by the European Union (10 million euro budget). The project, which started at the beginning of 2003, aims to facilitate cooperation and integration between Mediterranean countries with the goal of creating a Mediterranean Free-Trade Area through increased harmonisation and deregulation in the transport sector.
The project draws its origin from the 1995 Barcelona Declaration, which emphasised the need to connect the transport networks in the Mediterranean to the Trans-European transport networks and to encourage the development of links between countries of the southern shore of the Mediterranean, with a view to enhancing the growth of commercial trade and supporting the Euro-Mediterranean economic and financial partnership.
To recommend measures for addressing the problems and bottlenecks of physical infrastruture network by integrating security, safety and environmental aspects as well as actions to be supported through further project assistance.
