Description

Art soothes the soul, while engineering pays the bills. That's been my moto since graduating from Texas A&M. As an engineering manager for a large computer company, I've had the luxury of doing art and metal working in my spare time. Art has always been an interest of mind since I was a kid. My Mom and Dad were always making or creating something growing up. My Mom is an avid seamstress and my Dad a woodworker, so creativity and crafsmanship has been a key part of my life. My art started with pencil and paper like most kids. As a junior high student, I entered a drawing contest sponsored by Kellog Cereal and won a Schwinn bicycle. As a sophomore in highschool, I drew the covers for the football game programs but I didn't get started working with metal until I was a highschool senior working at a welding shop on large-scale petroleum equipment - not exactly art! Another interest of mine is motorsports. I raced high-speed shifter karts for almost 14 years and made a lot of my own parts and support equipment. After getting married and being blessed with three beautiful girls, time for racing quickly went away. That's when I sold all my race gear and purchased a plasma cutter and built my own CNC plasma cutter. Since then I've built a dedicated metal shop and continue to add equipment to my arsenal. I've never had so much fun! After making a few pieces for friends and family, I decided to create a name and an image for myself. I wanted a unique name that truly represented my art, hence "Expressive Metal" was born. Special thanks to my wife for allowing me the time to spend hours in the shop cutting, heating, bending and welding. She's my biggest fan...and sales person!
