According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the average American child consumes more than six hours of media per day. Media has replaced school and the family as the most dominant influence in the development of children.
These facts led the AAP to develop the Media Matters campaign in 1997 to help pediatricians, parents and children become more aware of the impact media has on child and adolescent health.
