The company's name, Company of the Far Countries, is taken from the first private investor owned trading company in the world, formed in 1594 by a group of Amsterdam merchants. They bought ships and became a trading company bringing porcelain from Asia to Europe. We believe the new FarCountries is the trading company for the 21st century, bringing distinctive products from all over the world to gift and home décor retailers in the U.S.
