About the Gators
In 2000, Cecil Campbell, Steve Athey, and Sam Johnson formed Warrenton Fauquier Community Baseball, Inc. A 501C-3 non-profit foundation devoted to promoting and furthering baseball in Fauquier County, WFCB has been very active in the community. In 2000 WFCB formed the Fauquier Gators as the most visible form of the organization, participating in the prestigious Clark Griffith Baseball League. The Gators have been very successful in promoting the values of WFCB in Fauquier County.
In addition to the success on the field, WFCB has been very successful in fundraising and gift giving endeavors to help baseball in the county. Based on generous contributions from a number of sponsors, the organization was able to donate to the Fauquier High School baseball team a radar gun and a monetary gift of $2000 to help purchase a tarp to cover the field. In addition to these gifts, Cecil Campbell, one of the founders, contributed a $7000 piece of equipment to the school to help maintain the field. In 2002 the Gators purchased a new batting cage for the Fauquier field to replace the old cage. The new $4000 batting cage is the best and safest batting cage available on the market. In 2003 WFCB once again contributed towards the maintenance of the Fauquier field by giving a major contribution towards a new field mower. This joint project with the Fauquier High School boosters has enabled the Fauquier Gators, as well as the high school baseball team to play on one of the best maintained fields in the league.
After the conclusion of the 2003 summer season, WFCB contributed $17,000 towards improving the drainage system in the field. In addition the funds helped install a warning track in the outfield. Prior to the start of the 2004 high school season, the organization provided $2,200 worth of screens to improve the safety of practice sessions for the teams.
