The Freshwater Biological Association is an independent organisation, a registered Charity and a Company Limited by Guarantee
The Association is a Registered Charity and independent membership organisation, which aims to promote freshwater biology. Founded in 1929, it has a long history of national and international achievements in freshwater science. The Association publishes and sells a variety of identification keys to freshwater fauna and flora, technical manuals and other specialist volumes. It possesses one of the finest freshwater libraries in the world, and also houses the Fritsch Collection of Algal Illustrations - a unique and invaluable aid to those involved in research into freshwater algae. Members are drawn from around the world and include researchers, students, teachers, practitioners and managers in the water industry and in regulatory organisations, and others interested in freshwater biology and habitats.

Membership
Membership is open to individuals and organisations interested in freshwater science and who wish to support the Association (for further details, click here). Members receive copies of the FBA's Annual Report, house-journal Freshwater Forum and newsletter FBA News, and they may obtain other publications at a substantial discount. The Association offers excellent concessionary rates to undergraduate and postgraduate students. Various services are offered by the library (including literature searches and a document delivery service), many of which are available to Members at a substantial discount. Members may also visit and use the Library by agreement with the Chief Executive.
