FDB Distribution Limited operate a high-bay warehouse distribution centre based at Kingswinford in the West Midlands. In 1996 the expansion and modernisation at the Kingswinford distribution centre cost FDB £0.5 million - no mean investment for an organisation of any size.
At FDB all the accoutrements of a professional modern distribution contractor are in evidence, such as the very narrow aisle (VNA) racking, bar-code driven stock control system and last but no means least skilled staff to administer customers' own order processing systems and accounts with speed and accuracy.
There are four main storage areas - 'Drive-In Racking', which suits high turnover and relatively uniform goods; 'Narrow-Aisle Racking', using Translift Bendi articulated fork-lift trucks; a 'Bulk Storage Area' with pick and pack; and the high-rise VNA racking, which is configured to take pallets of any size up to 12000 x 1000 mm - Euro and Imperial.
