Title

Firefox Ltd ::: provider of enabling technologies and services for the support of e-Communities

Description

Firefox is privately owned and was established in 2002 by a team of highly experienced IT veterans with a desire to deliver safe and secure web technology into the UK education sector. Based in Solihull, Firefox focus on providing ready made and custom built enabling technologies and support services for the safe and secure delivery of e-based communications. Our experience has been gained by delivering a large number of programmes within the education and corporate sector. As a result, we are now working with LEA’s, Education Business Link Organisations, National and Regional Agencies and Enterprise partners. The diversity of the projects that we are involved in shows how our products and services can be applied to a variety of different initiatives from Government Aimhigher to vocationally supportive mentoring and other projects connecting communities of mentors and mentees. We work in partnership with the Programme owners as either the technology provider or as the prime contractor using nationally accredited partners and practitioners.

Firefox are constantly researching the benefits and challenges associated with the use of web technology and its potential barriers when involved in Education. This has resulted in us creating safe and secure web and mail services that were used in a multitude of schools with thousands of student users. In 2003, we focused on delivering e-Mentoring and introduced the Hub and TrustZone services that form the basis of today’s products. Since this time, we have refined and extended the operational features and in the process made the technology even safer and easier to use and manage. We have introduced support systems that supply ongoing programme information and more variable project information (that can be delivered on a time related basis). We have improved our Measurement, Evaluation and Assessment services and Reporting capabilities significantly, and major improvements have been made to our Archiving and Audit capabilities.

In addition to technology solutions development, we have engaged with notable industry practitioners to produce “best in class” policies and procedures, including on-line feedback and assessment surveys. These form the basis for most e-Mentoring programmes which are, however, adapted to meet the specific requirements of different programmes like Aimhigher, Vocational Skills and Enterprise. This qualitative feedback combined with our quantitative usage reports produce management information by individual, group, class, school or programme that gives outputs, impacts and outcomes. This level of detailed information has proved invaluable to project leaders in managing their programmes and helping the stakeholder team make more informed policy decisions.
