rwilson writes "Charlie, John, Don, Rick, and I fished the South Holston on Saturday afternoon. Charlie, John, and I fished below the weir dam and caught several while Don and Rick fished above the weir dam. They also caught several. Steve came by and took us to another part of the river. Unfortunately, several people had the same idea. Don, Rick, and John found a spot and Charlie and I after looking a bit, decided to head back for dinner. I caught two, and lost four, one of somewhat substantial size. grrrrr. Later that evening, the other three returned to camp and they had caught around ten each. This was my first time fishing this stream and look forward to fishing it again.
rwilson writes "Jim, Gary, and I fished Sycamore Creek. We walked up the creek for about a mile and then fished from there up stream for another mile. We used dry flies. This was the first time I'd fished a stream this small and for a while I was one for ten or so. Eventually I was able to get the hang of it and finished with 15 fish. One thing interesting about this stream is in higher elevations, there are brook trout. Jim caught a few brookies, but I hadn't managed to catch one. At the end of the day, they let me have the stream to myself and I fished until I caught one, my first brook trout. What a beautiful fish. Thanks to Jim and Gary for letting a small stream newbie hang out with them and learn a few tricks. By the way, this was very physical fishing, climbing over rocks through the water. Catching that brookie made it all worth it. Jim and Gary caught between 25-30 fish each.
