- 1890 is the year, Forest City Tool began in Rockford, Illinois by the Erickson family. In 1957, the company moved operations to Hickory, North Carolina near the site of the current plant. In 1974, the plant moved operations less than one mile to a new 80,000 square foot facility where the plant continues to operate.
