The International Fortean Organization (INFO)

Description

Charles Fort (1874-1932), iconoclast, pioneer and uniquely American poet-philosopher, was a champion of the freedom of the human mind. The International Fortean Organization (INFO), the successor of the original Fortean Society begun in 1932 by Theodore Dreiser, Booth Tarkington, Ben Hecht, Tiffany Thayer, Alexander Woolcott and many of New York City's literati, continues the work of writer Charles Fort who is often called the father of the study of anomalistics or unknown things.

FortFest is the world's first, most prestigious, and longest running conference dedicated to anomalous phenomena and the spirit of Charles Fort. The annual FortFest has played muse to the leading lights in the field of forteana and has mentored upcoming researchers, authors and philosophers on the cutting edge of alternative science and original thought/research. Speakers have included John Keel, Colin Wilson, John Michell, Rebecca Hoffburger, William Corliss, Robert Anton Wilson, Graham Hancock, John Anthony West, Alvin Holm, Marty Cain, Phyllis Benjamin, Hilary Evans, Raymond Moody, Ingo Swann, Budd Hopkins and Doug Skinner. Through their conferences (FortFest, FortNite and FortScape) the International Fortean Organization provides a platform for those subjects ignored, or improperly explained away, by conventional science.

The conferences and their "living magazine" of tapes and cds/dvds are a tribute to Charles Fort's years of tireless data gathering, his puckish humor, his stylistically unique writings; and most of all, to the simple courage and honesty of a man who thought for himself and wished the same sane openmindedness in others.

The 2008 FortFest, entitled "Beyond Belief", is INFO's 47th conference on anomalous phenomena and will be held the weekend of March 29 at the American Visionary Art Museum (AVAM) in Baltimore, Maryland. Details of the program can be found by visiting the International Fortean Organization's website or emailing them at

Charles Hoy Fort in "Book of the Damned":

"I conceive of one inter-continuous nexus..."

"That our whole "existence" is a striving for the positive state.

The amazing paradox of it all: That all things are trying to become the universal by excluding other things.

That there is only this one process, and that it does animate all expressions, in all fields of phenomena, of that which we think of as one inter-continuous nexus.

That Truth is only another name for the positive state, or that the quest for truth is the attempt to achieve positiveness:..."
