The design is deliberately minimal. The simplest elements possible have been used so that the web site will run on the widest possible selection of web browsers. The web site looks more aesthetic if your browser supports "stylesheets" (most do), but even without such support it still works. Even a low resolution monitor should display the pages adequately. The minimalist approach has the added benefit of making search engines (such as Google) more inclined to index all the web site pages.
The result is easy to navigate, fast to load and pleasing to look at - and above all, more usable than the average web site.
