Description
A local volunteer organization in the Abacos of the Bahamas dedicated to the preservation of Abaco’s natural environment through community education.
In July of 1988, concerned about local and visitor practices of taking undersized crawfish from the sea, a small group of Hope Town residents, namely Suzanne Bethel, Candace Key, Frank Kenyon and Rudy Malone, formed Friends of the Environment.
As time went on, FRIENDS added mangrove removal restrictions to their list of concerns. When a large development on the north end of Guana Cay involving dredging and marine habitat loss threatened the area, they expanded their organization the meet this challenge too.
