Barkers Butts School - Coventry - Official Site

Description

Now long demolished, Barkers' Butts School once stood in Banks Road, Coundon (Coventry) and was once thought to be the largest school in Europe. This site aims to rekindle memories of Barkers (good or bad) by ex-pupils or staff but MORE importantly it aims to encourage visitors to submit photographs and personal recollections! Even if you didn't actually enjoy your school years it really doesn't matter - this site is all about our more impressionable years and to a large extent how things have changed. Once you join, you can contact other Fuzzers members using a sheilded personal message (perhaps find an old pal or two), view the many photographs on the site in more detail and send in your own memories of school life. For those more familiar with the old 'Fuzzers' site, we decided to rebuild it in the autumn of 2004, as it proved too complex, time consuming to maintain, and did not meet requirements. This new site has very much been welcomed by all its current members and is updated constantly by both myself and members - as you'll discover.

As a member (which is TOTALLY free), you will have access to participate in all areas, including the Gallery, Letters, Personal Messages, and many more (see our help page for more on features).

'Fuzzers' was a less than affectionate term for first years at Barkers' Butts (not sure how far back that goes). Norman Cooper (pupil 1951-54) recently informed me that first year students were 'Fuzzers', second year were 'Scrubbers', third year students were 'Angels' and fourth year students were 'Arc Angels' - that answers that I think.
