edit Description

The Florida West Coast Symphony is the oldest continuing orchestra in the state of Florida and has twice been ranked first among all major Florida musical organizations by the Florida Arts Council’s Cultural Institutions program. Although the Symphony has made its home in Sarasota for almost 60 years, the orchestra performs along the west coast of Florida from Bradenton to North Port.

The Symphony's Masterworks concert series present the best of classical music with featured guest soloists from around the world from November through early April. The orchestra also presents a Pops series, “Great Escapes,” a series of light classics and popular favorites, and a chamber music series.

Many specials events are presented each season including the annual gala held each year in January, and the Sarasota Music Festival held for three weeks in June. Named the "official teaching and performing festival of the state of Florida," the event brings together 40 internationally-acclaimed faculty artists who coach and perform with 85 of the most talented student in the world.

The Florida West Coast Symphony's education program is also the most comprehensive in the state. Adults and kids of all ages and abilities have the opportunity to take a string music class or lecture class. In July students gather for a three-week music day camp, Summer at the Symphony. The Youth Orchestra Program is made up of five orchestras for music students whose talents range from beginning to the advanced. The Youth Philharmonic, the most advanced student orchestra, will travel to New York in June 2008 to perform in Carnegie Hall. read more
