- The Gateway Tour was founded in August of 2001 by former Arizona State All-American golfer Chris Stutts to help aspiring PGA Tour golfers fine-tune their skills in a competitive golf environment. Growing from a 14-tournament tour in it’s first year that paid out $2.4 million, the Gateway Tour has turned into a 59-tournament tour that paid out over $7.2 million in 2006, including the season-ending $370,000 Sydney Frank Memorial Tour Championship.
