- Back in 1968, GBAD Services then known as Soil Investigation Unit (SIU) was first set up in Jurong Town Corporation (JTC). This is at the time when JTC begin its work on the Jurong Town Industrial Estate to convert remote tidal swamplands, fish and prawn ponds, some islands and marginal rubber estates in the southwestern most part of Singapore Island into an Industrial Estate. In 1988, Geotechnical and Building Assessment Unit (GBAU) was established to do a wider range of services including material testing, building inspection and assessment services in Singapore. Since 2001, GBAU had been an operation arm in Jurong International (under Jurong Consultants and SMM Pte Ltd), a wholly owned subsidiary of JTC Corporation (JTC). GBAU was renamed GBAD.
