In the days of the persecution of the ancient church, half of the Ichthus logo was sketched in the sand or dirt when a believer met a stranger. If the stranger was a believer also, he would then respond by finishing the Christian symbol of the Ichthus and the two would know it was safe to discuss the Lord without fear of harm. Today, the Ichthus picture fish, or Ichthus logo is seen almost as frequently as the cross to signify a person's Christian faith.
