The Gauteng Institute for Architecture (GIfA) - formerly the Transvaal Institute of Architects established in 1900 in South Africa - is the regional institute of the province of Gauteng, and its objects are to promote and maintain opportunities for the interchange and recording of knowledge and experience in architecture; the interests of society in matters concerned with architecture in relation to the environment; the art, science, research and practice of architecture; the architectural environment and cultural heritage; a high standard of conduct, professional competence and integrity; the interests of its members; and the dignity of the profession of architecture. In exercising these stated objectives, such steps as may be deemed necessary, are taken to further these objects.
