Major Collections at the Gjenvick-Gjønvik Archives
- Cunard Steamship started as British and North American Royal Mail Steam Packet Company. For over a century and a half Cunard successfully operated and dominated the Atlantic passenger routes becoming one of the most recognized companies of its era. Gjenvick Archives holds a huge collection on Cunard including Passenger Lists, Vintage Travel Brochures, Historical Steamship Tickets, Publications, Menus, Articles, Postcards, Photographs, and more.
- Hamburg-American Line was one of the major steamship companies to handle immigrant trade. The main attraction amongst enthusiasts for collecting material from this shipping line is the beautifully attractive artwork on their passenger lists rather than their historical value.
- The Norddeutscher Lloyd or the North German Lloyd Steamship Company was one of the major German passenger and cargo transport companies of its time on the North Atlantic Ocean. Archives on them include Passenger Lists, Vintage Travel Brochures, Menus, Photographs and more.
- White Star Line, a British passenger transport company, is perhaps best known for its ill fated flagship Titanic. You can see Passenger Lists, Vintage Travel Brochures, Photographs and a special section on the R.M.S. Titanic memorabilia.

The founder of the Archives, Paul Ament-Gjenvick, originally named the archives "The Gjenvick-Gjønvik Family History Center" and included the family history of the Gjenvick's in the United States and Gjønvik in Scandinavia. Gjenvick is the original but incorrect translation of Gjønvik - a unique Norwegian name that first appeared in the late 1800s. In 2003, the name was shortened to the "Gjenvick-Gjønvik Archives" to represent the family that started the archives. The family history section pertaining to the Gjenvick-Gjønvik family has since been removed and is currently being researched by various family members in Upper Midwestern US. The actual documents that comprise the Gjenvick-Gjønvik Archives are kept in archival safe, controlled environmental storage in locations around the United States (Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Seattle and Atlanta) and in Trondheim, Norway. |
