The word domain is used in a number of different ways when it comes to the Internet. It can be used to refer to:
- A website's domain name. Examples: Apple.com or AboutUs.org or PDX.edu.
- A website. When someone uses the word domain to refer to a website, they're referring to the fact that its name is in effect its address. For the above examples, the actual websites would live at:
- http://www.apple.com
- http://www.aboutus.org
- http://www.pdx.edu
- top-level domain. These are indicated by the letters that follow the dot in a domain name. Examples:
- com
- org
- edu
- biz
- info
