Company Profile
Eriq Powers, founder of GO-AdventureSports, has been an outdoor educator for over ten years. While working on his Recreation /Adventure Sports degree at Frostburg State University, Eriq co-instructed Basic Outdoor Adventures, a course which introduced students to a variety of outdoor adventure activities. In addition to providing guidelines for equipment use, appropriate clothing, environmental concerns and safety, this course helped students develop both an appreciation for the incredible recreational opportunities that outdoor adventures provide and an understanding of their environmental and social responsibilities as natural resource users.
Following his coursework at Frostburg State University, Eriq developed programs for a number of camps and adventure companies before opening GO-AdventureSports. He served as a ropes course director and a lead instructor for rock climbing, caving, mountain biking, orienteering and kayaking. Eriq has spent the last twelve years providing quality adventure programming, while also receiving additional certifications from such organizations as the National Cave Rescue Commission, National Association of Search and Rescue Technicians, Rescue 3 International, American Mountain Guides Association, Solo Wilderness Medicine and the American Canoe Association.
Since starting GO-AdventureSports in 2001, Eriq has been fine-tuning his adventure programs for maximum benefit to his clients. Many of the games and initiatives used in the Portable Team Challenge are used exclusively in GO-AdventureSports programs. The mountain biking program is giving inner-city youth an opportunity to experience nature and adventure outside of the city - getting them out of their environment and into the woods. The top-roping anchors clinic is helping local climbers become safer climbers and our caving program has been highlighted in The Washington Post, Audubon News, Men's Journal Magazine and Rolling Stone.
